Hello and welcome to the first issue of this newsletter this year. First, I’d like to thank all my amazing readers for taking the time to read my post every week. To all the lovely comments like the one below, too, thank you.
It is a new year, plans have been made, and it feels like a fresh slate to most. Now is the time to start walking the talk, to strike the iron while it’s hot.
Remember, results are a lagging indicator of our habits. They take time to manifest. To correct the wrong, it will also take time. Very few big things happen overnight. You don’t become obese overnight. It is the accumulation of your habits that results in you being overweight.
A reminder that our finances are essential and should be treated as such. The basics are the habits we build. Practices that you can start today include:
Reading more about personal finance and investments
Budgeting and Tracking your expenses
Saving
Start building an emergency fund
Investing
Finally, it is imperative to know and understand - there is a difference between knowing and understanding -that we are all running on different races.
Imagine competing with someone who is busy spending 10% of their profits with 95% of your principal.
The reason why it is called personal finance is that it is PERSONAL. Theory and reality are quite different. Theory works on paper and is straightforward. Reality, on the other hand, has a surprising amount of detail.
Bits of advice are general rules and anecdotes. And like salt, you should apply them to taste.
So let’s go out there, take charge of your finances, and let’s make this year our best year yet.
